YOU HAVE ENTERED MY "BLOG."
It took me a spell to get used to the word: BLOG!
I would prefer to call this documentary a log written in reverse. And did you know that blog spelled backward almost equals Glob? Now, isn't that interesting?
Joe Farace stated in his review for SHUTTERBUG MAGAZINE that my work is "old school." Heck, at age 77, I suppose I also qualify as "old school", or a leftover from the past century, but I'm still hanging in there and am always looking forward to the next field trip into the hinterlands.
I have posted a sampling of work that covers more than six decades and numerous portfolios. The Appalachian Portfolio is my largest, and this is where my fine art took root. There is also the Chesapeake, Shenandoah Valley and a sprinkling of images from my Public Information days at Radford University. Lastly, I cannot forget my western collections which are growing by leaps and bounds.
I held a variety of interesting positions over the years, including a ten-year stint as an advertising director for General Electric and later as a full-time working artist.
Trying to pick out more than a hundred images from a collection of several thousand was a major chore, so it was likely a good thing that I spent a good two years developing this project, because that gave me a chance to think about what image I would plug in tomorrow or the one I will make next month.
These images do not fall into any particular order, so be prepared for a healthy scattering of subject matter and a lot of short essays about the subject and how many of them evolved from concept to execution. I try to toss in a few helpful hints when they come to mind.
In 2005 I retired from film and printmaking, so there will be digital images mixed in with the rest of the lot.
I hope you make it to the older posts. Many of my finest images are at the tail end of this blog. Or, was it the beginning? I'm just not used to creating a book or any other presentation in reverse. Anyhow...
Enjoy
Jack Jeffers
